South Pacific at Lincoln Center

Although I wasn't around in 1954 when South Pacific first appeared on Broadway, I can tell you that the first revival of South Pacific was an instant hit from the day it began playing at New York's Vivian Beaumont Theater in Lincoln Center. South Pacific started previews on March 1, 2008 then proceeded to win seven 2008 Tony Awards for excellence in the Broadway Theater. It was our company's biggest ticket seller in 2008 and still sells extremely well.

South Pacific has a wonderful score by the incomparable Rodgers and Hammerstein and was originally adapted from James Michner's famous novel "Tales of the South Pacific".

The current revival (the first one in over 50 years), currently stars Laura Osnes and Paulo Szot. Ms. Osnes was recently scene on Broadway in the popular revival of Grease and Mr. Szot has appeared in several New York City Opera productions. He was the original male lead playing Emile de Becque in this version of South Pacific, left the show for a short while then recently returned. He is a standout performer and Broadway entertainer in my book.

South Pacific tells the unique and interesting story of a U.S. Navy nurse (Ms. Osnes) that falls in love with a local plantation owner on an island in the South Pacific. The costumes, lighting and scenic design alone are worth the price of admission to see South Pacific. Some of the songs included in this amazing score are "Some Enchanted Evening", "Younger Than Springtime", "Nothing Like A Dame", "A Wonderful Guy" and many other memorable songs you'll be singing even after you leave the theater.

It's truly one of my personal favorites and if you want to see an old fashioned show that has all the elements of a great Broadway Show, then you might want to consider calling Applause Theater Service and making an inquiry to obtain tickets to the show.

Applause has been providing the excellent service Broadway theater-goers have come to know for nearly 22 years now. They love to talk about Broadway Shows and especially enjoy sending their customers to nice dining spots before the theater as an extra treat. They know the city very well and enjoy sharing the trade secrets about how to get the best seats for South Pacific as well as any other Broadway Shows you might be keen on seeing.

Remember to ask about their BFV ticket deals. BFV stands for Below Face Value prices which basically offers below cost prices on many shows that don't usually sell all their inventory.

Applause is a New York State licensed ticket agency (license #71AP1001029) and caters to the needs of consumers, travel agents, hotel concierge and corporations that entertain clients and reward employees using theater tickets. They love talking about Broadway Theater so give them a call when you have a few minutes to talk.

Good luck and enjoy South Pacific or the Broadway Show of your choosing.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

South Pacific Continues To Charm Audiences Eight Times A Week On The Great White Way

Winner of 7 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival is Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific. This spectacular new production of this Broadway classic marks the shows first time on Broadway since the 1949 Broadway production. I first fell in love with the show during my junior year in high school when I played Stewpot and understudied the role of Emile de Becque. What an amazing show. Every song is a classic and every scene tugs at your heart in more ways than one. The show has been a big seller since it first opened and continues to be one of the most popular shows on Broadway. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the Vivian Beaumont Theatre,(Home of South Pacific)it is one of the smallest theatres on Broadway.(1000 seats)Not only that but the entire show is performed in the round. You know what that means? There is not a bad seat in the house. Viewing is exactly the same no matter where you sit. Now how many Broadway Theatres can say that? Not too many. So why not give us a call and get your tickets to see one of Broadway's most beloved musicals. You will have "Some Enchanted Evening" indeed.

See South Pacific this Summer

In the hot days of summer what could be better than to see a show set in the tropics of the South Pacific?

South Pacific is considered to be one of the greatest musicals of all time. In 1949 a leading theatre critic told the show’s original star Mary Martin after her first performance “Don’t take this show to New York”. To which she replied “WHY?” and was responded with “It’s too good for them”. Well not only did they take it to New York, but it opened to rave reviews, 10 Tony nominations (it won all 10) and ran for over 5 years. It might have been too good for New Yorkers but they sure knew how to embrace it. Now some 50 years later it reopened once again in New York to rave reviews and many awards. With 11 Tony nominations, and 7 wins including Best Revival it once again proves it is one of America’s favorite musicals of all time.
Based on James Michener's Pulitzer Prize-winning book Tales of the South Pacific, Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. Set on a tropical island during World War II, the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples -- US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush and French plantation owner Emile de Becque and Navy Airman Joe Cable and a young local native girl Liat -- and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of the war and by their own prejudices.
There are many reasons to see this show. It happens to be one of the most beautiful shows visually I have ever seen on Broadway. Most of the show looks just like a postcard from the South Pacific. But another reason is that for a limited time you have the opportunity to see the delightful Laura Osnes. This is Laura’s second Broadway show after winning the role of Sandy in Grease on America’s YOURE THE ONE THAT I WANT. This pretty young engenue stands strong in the shoes of the show’s original Nellie, Kelli O’Hara.
Many great seats are still available for performances this summer. Call Applause to check out prices and seats available.
See this show now!…you don’t want to have to wait 50 more years before it appears on Broadway again.
