What? You still haven't seen South Pacific yet? Well what are you waiting for people? Not only is it one of the most beautifully written musicals of all time but it is also one of the best shows currently running on the Great White Way. The show which first premiered on Broadway in 1949 won seven 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival as well as Beast Direction and Best Actor.
I first discovered the show during my junior year in high school when our drama director chose South Pacific as our Spring production. I of course wanted to play Emile de Beque but it was not to be. Although I was the understudy. I played Stewpot. You all remember him right? Of course you don't. I barely can recall what he did and I played him. Anyway enough about me. Back to the South Pacific that matters.
I first saw the show back in March of 2008 before it opened to glowing reviews from critics and audiences alike. Even almost two years into the run the show continues to draw thousands of people each week to the Vivian Beaumont Theatre. Now that's saying something. By the way if you are not familiar with the theatre I can tell you that not only is it one of the smallest theatres on Broadway but they perform the show in the round. You know what that means don't you? There is not a bad seat in the house. How many theatres can say that? Get your tickets to see South Pacific on Broadway. It is a classic.

My Thoughts On South Pacific
Who would have thought that a fifty year old show would not only be one of Broadway's most popular shows but still continue to sell at almost full capacity almost two years later. South Pacific first premiered on Broadway in 1949 and here we are in 2009 and it is still one of Broadway's biggest success stories. I had the great fortune of seeing the show prior to it's opening in March 2008 and was so surprised at how current and relevant the show remains. Most shows from the "Golden Age of Broadway" tend to feel some what dated and a little hokey if you know what I mean.
That is not the case with South Pacific. Not only is it one of the most well produced shows on Broadway but it is what Broadway musicals are all about. A great story that touches your heart. A score that even days later you are still humming as you walk down the street. And a cast of characters that help make your Broadway experience one that you will cherish for years to come. Shows like South Pacific don't come around every day. See it now before it is too late.

South Pacific To Get New Leading Lady
Yes I know Laura Osnes is not technically new as she played the part of Nellie Forbush last year during Kelli O'Hara's maternity leave. That doesn't matter. It's a new year. Time to spice things up right? I first saw South Pacific prior to it's opening in the Spring of 2008 and loved it. Who knew a show from the 1940's could seem as relevant and fresh as it did some fifty years ago? Having done the show in high school I knew what to expect. I expected to be bored to tell you the truth. Revivals up until then had been sort of lackluster if you know what I mean. Not this one. What an amazing night in the theatre. Going in I knew the music would be good. It is Rodgers and Hammerstein after all. They knew how to write a song. Everybody from the ensemble to the leads were outstanding. Now the show is not for everybody. Kids that are into The Lion King or Wicked would probably not like it. I understand that. Regardless South Pacific is a great show and nothing will ever change that. It's as American as Apple Pie. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself. You'll be glad you did.

South Pacific at Lincoln Center
South Pacific has a wonderful score by the incomparable Rodgers and Hammerstein and was originally adapted from James Michner's famous novel "Tales of the South Pacific".
The current revival (the first one in over 50 years), currently stars Laura Osnes and Paulo Szot. Ms. Osnes was recently scene on Broadway in the popular revival of Grease and Mr. Szot has appeared in several New York City Opera productions. He was the original male lead playing Emile de Becque in this version of South Pacific, left the show for a short while then recently returned. He is a standout performer and Broadway entertainer in my book.
South Pacific tells the unique and interesting story of a U.S. Navy nurse (Ms. Osnes)
It's truly one of my personal favorites and if you want to see an old fashioned show that has all the elements of a great Broadway Show, then you might want to consider calling Applause Theater Service and making an inquiry to obtain tickets to the show.
Applause has been providing the excellent service Broadway theater-goers have come to know for nearly 22 years now. They love to talk about Broadway Shows and especially enjoy sending their customers to nice dining spots before the theater as an extra treat. They know the city very well and enjoy sharing the trade secrets about how to get the best seats for South Pacific as well as any other Broadway Shows you might be keen on seeing.
Remember to ask about their BFV ticket deals. BFV stands for Below Face Value prices which basically offers below cost prices on many shows that don't usually sell all their inventory.
Applause is a New York State licensed ticket agency (license #71AP1001029) and caters to the needs of consumers, travel agents, hotel concierge and corporations that entertain clients and reward employees using theater tickets. They love talking about Broadway Theater so give them a call when you have a few minutes to talk.
Good luck and enjoy South Pacific or the Broadway Show of your choosing.
Sincerely,
