You still haven't seen South Pacific yet? Well what are you waiting for people? Not only is it one of the most beautifully written musicals of all time but it is also one of the best shows currently running on the Great White Way. The show which first premiered on Broadway in 1949 won seven 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival as well as Beast Direction and Best Actor.

I first discovered the show during my junior year in high school when our drama director chose South Pacific as our Spring production. I of course wanted to play Emile de Beque but it was not to be. Although I was the understudy. I played Stewpot. You all remember him right? Of course you don't. I barely can recall what he did and I played him. Anyway enough about me. Back to the South Pacific that matters.

I first saw the show back in March of 2008 before it opened to glowing reviews from critics and audiences alike. Even almost two years into the run the show continues to draw thousands of people each week to the Vivian Beaumont Theatre. Now that's saying something. By the way if you are not familiar with the theatre I can tell you that not only is it one of the smallest theatres on Broadway but they perform the show in the round. You know what that means don't you? There is not a bad seat in the house. How many theatres can say that? Get your tickets to see South Pacific on Broadway. It is a classic.

JWB
Applause Theatre and Entertainment
311 West 43rd Street
Suite 601
New York,NY 10036
212-307-7050 or 1-800-451-9930

http://www.applause-tickets.com/

Follow us at http://twitter.com/applausetickets
Facebook: Applause Theater and Entertainment Service,Inc

My Thoughts On South Pacific

Who would have thought that a fifty year old show would not only be one of Broadway's most popular shows but still continue to sell at almost full capacity almost two years later. South Pacific first premiered on Broadway in 1949 and here we are in 2009 and it is still one of Broadway's biggest success stories. I had the great fortune of seeing the show prior to it's opening in March 2008 and was so surprised at how current and relevant the show remains. Most shows from the "Golden Age of Broadway" tend to feel some what dated and a little hokey if you know what I mean.

That is not the case with South Pacific. Not only is it one of the most well produced shows on Broadway but it is what Broadway musicals are all about. A great story that touches your heart. A score that even days later you are still humming as you walk down the street. And a cast of characters that help make your Broadway experience one that you will cherish for years to come. Shows like South Pacific don't come around every day. See it now before it is too late.

JWB
Applause Theatre And Entertainment Service
311 W. 43rd Street
Suite 601
New York, NY 10036

http://www.applause-tickets.com/

Follow us on Facebook

South Pacific To Get New Leading Lady

Yes I know Laura Osnes is not technically new as she played the part of Nellie Forbush last year during Kelli O'Hara's maternity leave. That doesn't matter. It's a new year. Time to spice things up right? I first saw South Pacific prior to it's opening in the Spring of 2008 and loved it. Who knew a show from the 1940's could seem as relevant and fresh as it did some fifty years ago? Having done the show in high school I knew what to expect. I expected to be bored to tell you the truth. Revivals up until then had been sort of lackluster if you know what I mean. Not this one. What an amazing night in the theatre. Going in I knew the music would be good. It is Rodgers and Hammerstein after all. They knew how to write a song. Everybody from the ensemble to the leads were outstanding. Now the show is not for everybody. Kids that are into The Lion King or Wicked would probably not like it. I understand that. Regardless South Pacific is a great show and nothing will ever change that. It's as American as Apple Pie. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself. You'll be glad you did.

JWB
Applause Theatre and Entertainment
311 West 43rd Street
Suite 601
New York,NY 10036
212-307-7050 or 1-800-451-9930

http://www.applause-tickets.com/

Follow us at http://twitter.com/applausetickets
Facebook: Applause Theater and Entertainment Service,Inc

There Is Nothin' Like South Pacific

Looking for a little bit of nostalgia? South Pacific started previews on March 1, 2008 then proceeded to win seven 2008 Tony Awards for excellence in the Broadway Theater. It was our company's biggest ticket seller in 2008 and still sells extremely well.

South Pacific has a wonderful score by the incomparable Rodgers and Hammerstein and was originally adapted from James Michner's famous novel "Tales of the South Pacific".

The current revival (the first one in over 50 years), currently stars Laura Osnes and Paulo Szot. Ms. Osnes was recently scene on Broadway in the popular revival of Grease and Mr. Szot has appeared in several New York City Opera productions. He was the original male lead playing Emile de Becque in this version of South Pacific, left the show for a short while then recently returned. He is a standout performer and Broadway entertainer in my book.

South Pacific tells the unique and interesting story of a U.S. Navy nurse (Ms. Osnes) that falls in love with a local plantation owner on an island in the South Pacific. The costumes, lighting and scenic design alone are worth the price of admission to see South Pacific. Some of the songs included in this amazing score are "Some Enchanted Evening", "Younger Than Springtime", "Nothing Like A Dame", "A Wonderful Guy" and many other memorable songs you'll be singing even after you leave the theater.

It's truly one of my personal favorites and if you want to see an old fashioned show that has all the elements of a great Broadway Show, then you might want to consider calling Applause Theater Service and making an inquiry to obtain tickets to the show.

Applause has been providing the excellent service Broadway theater-goers have come to know for nearly 22 years now. They love to talk about Broadway Shows and especially enjoy sending their customers to nice dining spots before the theater as an extra treat. This spectacular new production of this Broadway classic marks the shows first time on Broadway since the 1949 Broadway production. I first fell in love with the show during my junior year in high school when I played Stewpot and understudied the role of Emile de Becque. What an amazing show. Every song is a classic and every scene tugs at your heart in more ways than one. The show has been a big seller since it first opened and continues to be one of the most popular shows on Broadway. Now for those of you that are not familiar with the Vivian Beaumont Theatre,(Home of South Pacific)it is one of the smallest theatres on Broadway.(1000 seats)Not only that but the entire show is performed in the round. You know what that means? There is not a bad seat in the house. Viewing is exactly the same no matter where you sit. Now how many Broadway Theatres can say that? Not too many. So why not give us a call and get your tickets to see one of Broadway's most beloved musicals. You will have "Some Enchanted Evening" indeed.

JWB
Applause Theatre and Entertainment Service,Inc.
311 W. 43rd Street
Suite 601
New York, NY 10036
212-307-7050 or 1-800-451-9930

http://www.applause-tickets.com/

Now is The Best Time To See South Pacific On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. The production which marks the first Broadway revival of the show is one of the most visually stunning musicals you will ever see On or Off-Broadway. Each song is a classic and the cast of theatre veterans provide an evening of sheer joy. I can't say enough about this show except that it is a must-see. In 1949 a leading theatre critic told the show’s original star Mary Martin after her first performance “Don’t take this show to New York”. To which she replied “WHY?” and was responded with “It’s too good for them”. Well not only did they take it to New York, but it opened to rave reviews, 10 Tony nominations (it won all 10) and ran for over 5 years. It might have been too good for New Yorkers but they sure knew how to embrace it. Now some 50 years later it reopened once again in New York to rave reviews and many awards. With 11 Tony nominations, and 7 wins including Best Revival it once again proves it is one of America’s favorite musicals of all time.
Based on James Michener's Pulitzer Prize-winning book Tales of the South Pacific, Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. Set on a tropical island during World War II, the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples -- US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush and French plantation owner Emile de Becque and Navy Airman Joe Cable and a young local native girl Liat -- and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of the war and by their own prejudices.
There are many reasons to see this show. It happens to be one of the most beautiful shows visually I have ever seen on Broadway. Most of the show looks just like a postcard from the South Pacific. But another reason is that for a limited time you have the opportunity to see the delightful Laura Osnes. This is Laura’s second Broadway show after winning the role of Sandy in Grease on America’s YOURE THE ONE THAT I WANT. This pretty young engenue stands strong in the shoes of the show’s original Nellie, Kelli O’Hara.
Many great seats are still available for performances this summer. Its portrayal of Americans stationed in an alien culture in wartime is as relevant today as when it first thrilled audiences in 1949.

Based on James Michener’s Pulitzer Prize winning book Tales of the South Pacific, the musical is set on a tropical island during World War II and tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples – U.S. Navy nurse Nellie Forbush(Laura Osnes) and French plantation owner Emile de Becque (Tony award winner Paulo Szot) and Marine Joe Cable and a young local native girl Liat – and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of the war and by their own prejudices. Considered by many the finest musical ever written and I could not agree more!!

Call Applause now for some of the best deals and best seats to see this great American musical. 800-451-9930.

South Pacific at Lincoln Center-One of New York's Best Shows

In 2008 South Pacific won 7 Tony Awards for Broadway's Best Revival. Our little ticket agency Applause Theater Service, located in New York City, sold a ton of tickets for this show.

Although it is still popular, many theater-goers have seen it. And you know the old saying, "whatever goes up, eventually comes down". All I mean by this is that South Pacific is a tremendously exciting Broadway Show to see, but for a limited time only, you can obtain seats for discount prices as the first year of bigger than usual demand for new shows is over.

South Pacific is one of New York's landmark shows and this version is only the first revival of an over 50 year old show. Maybe this is why it is so special. The original South Pacific won a Pulitzer Prize, played for over five years and won nine Tony Awards. Songs like "Some Enchanted Evening", "Younger Than Springtime" and "Nothing Like A Dame" are some of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein favorites.

Currently Laura Osnes stars as Ensign Nellie Forbush, taking over the role played by Kelli O'Hara. Ms. O'Hara is having a baby soon and plans on returning to South Pacific in October of 2009. The supporting cast for South Pacific is extremely talented and the creative team features direction by Bartlett Sher, scenic design by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Donald Holder and sound design by Scott Lehrer. The talent both on stage and creatively are some of the finest the theater industry has ever seen.

Although South Pacific was a complete sold out show in 2008, right now there are a few weekday performances that Applause Theater Service can get you at a discount off the regular prices. The discount is valid for performances on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday matinee and evenings and some Thursdays, subject to availability. The special prices are valid for many performances now through May 21, 2009. If you need to go on the weekend, not to worry friends. Simply call Applause locally in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930 and they will provide you with great seats and the most reasonable prices as well. South Pacific is one of my most favorite shows. It is just the type of "old fashioned" production that takes me back to the days when I was first introduced to the "magic" of live Broadway entertainment.

Applause Theater Service is a New York State licensed official ticket agency for South Pacific and all Broadway Shows. Kelli O'Hara who originated the role is leaving to have her first child with her husband Greg Naughton and will return on Tuesday, October 6th (Maybe! It's not certain).

Great news for Kelli who has stayed in this role a lot longer than I thought she would AND is planning on coming back. I loved her in her two previous shows, The Light in the Piazza and The Pajama Game whom she starred in with Harry Connick Jr. As a matter of fact I just saw a recent interview with Kelli and she claims that Harry and she will both be doing another show in the near future. They had such wonderful chemistry together. I actually thought that they were an item during that show, at least that's what the rumor around town was.

Anyway, back to Laura, she was probably the best thing in Grease which I hated and I feel that she will make a fine Nellie. We shall see!

South Pacific is one of my all time favorite shows and it's an absolute must see.
